Summary/Abstract: The Gateway Award program is designed to be used with people who are intellectually disabled. Its main task is to develop communication and psychosocial skills and enable a person with an intellectual disability to be independent. It also aims at activating students with intellectual disabilities. The program is tailored to age and individual abilities. The program allows for fulfilling the objectives of personalized learning of people with intellectual disabilities. The program is based on several principles: the human right to an active and equal participation in contemporary society and normalization of life of people with intellectual disabilities.
