Summary/Abstract: A lower employment rate of people with chronic illnesses can he a consequence of the difficulties caused by the impairment or illness and the prejudices of the society that those people have diminished working abilities. As the employers are the ones who decide about the employment, this paper has tried to research what they perceive as obstacles in employing people with chronic illnesses. The scale of chronic illness “Cl” has been used. It consists of 18 variables and researches the difficulties in employing and working of people with chronic illnesses as percept by the employers. Five factors have been extracted by the factor analysis: the factor of possible inappropriate behaviour (CT 1), the factor of the employer’s feeling of incompetence in providing health and safety issues for the people with chronic illnesses (CT 2), the factor of expected irresponsibility (CT 3), the factor of responsibility and risk (CT 4), the factor of reluctance at employing because of the expected diminished work efficiency (CT 5). The greatest obstacle for employers in employing people with chronic illnesses is the expected diminished work productivity of these people. Taking into consideration the fact that there are no researches on the work efficiency of people with chronic illnesses in the Republic of Croatia, we can assume that these expectations are the result of the employers’ inexperience in working with them, or the result of prejudices towards employing and working of people with chronic illnesses.
