Summary/Abstract: At the time when problems related to growing up of children and the young are increasing, behavioural problems are becom- ming more complex and the existing treatment interventions proved to be insufficiently efficient, the only solution left is to seek scientific solutions on which prevention practice could be based. This paper aims to establish and confirm certian knowledge of importance for the field of prevention activités and for this country by means of a review of some more recent theses concerning the determination of the essence of prevention research! science and the prevention practice. The paper includes certain approaches and definitions of prevention science and prevention research as well as the bases for setting up and evaluating prevention programmes.
