Summary/Abstract: In addition to long-standing debates about alleged violations of civil and private rights, Dolan and Felch warn that DNA samples occasionally incriminated of innocent people, criminalization that later turned out to be the result of inter-contamination on the spot or in the laboratory, false interpretation of the results of laboratory tests, overestimation of evidence or misinterpretation of their significance in criminal proceedings. A report issued by the National Academy of Sciences of the United States has shown that although DNA samples have indeed raised scientific reliability, only about 10% of them are available, and will help resolve a crime only if it supports a probative hypothesis that intensifies the guiltiness or innocence factor.
