Summary/Abstract: The study, which included 277 participants – 148 women and 129 men, aimed at the determination of senior citizens’ satisfaction with certain aspects of education and recreation. The results of the research suggest that there are slight differences between the studied groups as far as their satisfaction with particular categories is concerned, namely older people from rural backgrounds as well as nursing home residents assess their satisfaction with particular aspects at the lowest level. German seniors display high satisfaction in both analysed aspects. The elderly living independently in cities are more satisfied than other groups. The major feature of these two groups is their independence as well as transport opportunities and availability. The research results provide another argument in favour of aiming supportive projects at residents from specific environments, namely nursing centres and the countryside. However, low level of general participation of the elderly in culture is still discernible.
