Summary/Abstract: Poverty is a multidimensional socio- economic phenomenon. It entails more than the lack of income and productive resources to ensure sustainable livelihoods, its manifestations include hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education, health care and other basic services, social discrimination, high rates of disruptive or disorderly behavior and exclusion as well as the lack of participation in decision-making. Various social groups bear a disproportionate burden of poverty. After the World War II efforts in combating poverty have increased, bringing mixed results and opinions. As of today, there is a large number of specialized international organizations that focus on poverty reduction.
