Summary/Abstract: The Sira, a branch of the history of Islam, is a science dealing with the life of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Therefore it has been great value to Muslims, who are supposed to take him as their role model in life. However, they are perhaps misled by means of very weak hadiths and even fabricated ones found in many books of the sira to an inaccurate understanding of the Prophet. For this concern, the construction of the sira out of the authentic hadiths is of the utmost significance. In order to bring about this construction, what should be done is to benefit from the hadiths and to assess the narrations through methods of criticism applied in the hadith science. This article endeavours to prove the possibility of creating a work of the sira that would cover nearly every major section in al-Sirat al-Nabawiyya (The Prophetic Life) by Ibn Hisham, which is likely the ultimate book in its genre, after gathering the authentic narrations about the sira in the two most trustworthy works of the hadith compilations, namely al-Jami’ al-Sahih of al-Bukhari and of Muslim.
