Summary/Abstract: The paper is aiming at analyzing an almost unknown biographical episode of the philosopher Wilhelm Leibniz (1646-1716). In 1713, the Transylvanian chancellary was vacant, and Leibniz, who lived since 1712 in Vienna, where he wished to create a scientific society, applied for this dignity, as he saw himself the only person to meet all the requirements for such a demanding job. Eventually, as he did not want to offend any Transylvanian “natio”, the emperor refused to appoint the famous thinker.
