Summary/Abstract: “The Assumption of the Virgin” and “Saint Nicholas” church is a typical example of the “post-Brancovan” architecture from the 18th century in regard to the style and the preservation of its authenticity, despite its current decayed appearance. Architecturally speaking, it is a three-apse church, which also has a steeple above the narthex. Some of its features are the narrow space between the narthex and the nave and a very broad and deep altar apse, with an exterior width greater than that the nave. The steeple can be accessed through a turret in the north-western corner of the narthex, on the outside. From an artistic point of view, the notable elements are the interior and exterior frescoes, as well as the exquisite carved stone. The 1977 and 1986 earthquakes, and most of the last decade of the twentieth century, have worsened the church’s condition and another powerful earthquake could bring the monument to the brink of collapse. The church has sustained a series of interventions, but extensive repairs are necessary for the preservation of this Brancovan-style historical monument. Thus, with the support of Ministry of Culture and National Heritage by the registration of this monument of national importance in the National Restoration Plan – PNR 2012, at position 76 (nr.crt.62) are under development works such as building: conservation-restoration, restoration towers, conservation-restoration stone, etc (BZ-II-mA-02356).
