The Preparation of the Romanian Army in the Context of the International Relationships in the Fourth Decade of the 20th Century

Summary/Abstract: The changes occurred on the international political arena in the fourth decade of the 20th century have determined the Romanian government to take urgent measures to improve the army’s endowment with weapons and combat equipment, especially for the large units intended to cover the western border of the territory. In 1935, the Romanian Great General Staff submitted for approval the framework document outlining the impact of the international changes on the Romanian military decision factor with respect to the alternatives of external support and the international confrontation problems. Measures were adopted to strengthen the country’s defense capacity, both by broadening and strengthening political and military alliances and by increasing the country’s armed material resources, by preparing and guiding them towards possible conflict areas, according to the fundamental choices of the Romanian decision makers.
