Summary/Abstract: In this article the author considers the theoretical and practical conception of biopolitics in Antonio Negri and Michael Hardt, as they are exposed first and foremost in Empire and Multitude. Analyzing the idea of biopower as a characteristic of contemporary empire, the author focuses on the issues of paradigm of war and peace as the space of biopower, i.e. on the ways in which Foucault’s and completely different Agamben’s understanding of biopolitics interwine in the articulation of the „multitude“ as the new political subjectivity. In the second part of the essay, the idea of „biopolitical production“ is explicated, as constitutive for the thought of „positive biopolitics“. The author argues that on the basis of difference between Empire and Multitude, i.e. the difference between the possibility of democratic sovereignty and dissmisal of such possibility, represents the decisive moment of encounter of the philosophical and political in Hardt and Negri and simoultaniously the space where the greates challenges for their project emerge.
