To rethink a defeat: the case Lui Rosel and the Paric commune

Summary/Abstract: The Paris commune is the center around which the proposed in the article possibilities to rethink the defeat are spread. The commune is examined, on one hand, in connection with ist status in the fate of one of its supporters and, on the other hand, with its presence in the field of socialist thought. The dramatic choice of officer Lui Rosel, who had joined the commune because of his disagreement with current events in the army after the defeat in 1870, was predestined. In respect to the particular life destiny the commune became an existential defeat. But in the frames of the socialist movement the same failure took different dimensions because the socialists place its rethinking as a morality and symbolic victory and pledge for future successes of the labor class.
