Summary/Abstract: The text studies specific canons in manuscript 316 at the Institute of Church History and Archives– Sofia (14 century): Kanon za Terentiy, Pompiiy i drugite s tyah, Kanon za Antipa Pergamasiiyski and Kanon za Vasiliiy Pariyski. Their analysis proves the great importance of this manuscript to the history of Bulgarian liturgy. The canons reveal the signatures of Constantine-Cyril, Dox, Naum, Stoyan, Sondock, and Stipiy/ Scipius in an incredible tangle of interpretations and meanings. This richness, as well as the complexity of performance, show the extraordinary attention our ancestors have had to the mystical side of the word and the single letter. The grouping of initials in letters and figures is even more astonishing because the meaning of the form is added to the meaning of the text. All these hymnographers work in the early period of the Bulgarian hymnography - they belong both to the Cyrillo-Methodian Age and to the Golden Age of Bulgarian Culture.
