Summary/Abstract: The study of symbols and of the sign-symbol, as the oldest and longest means of communication, trough which subtle messages about macro- and micro cosmos are transmitted, has a tremendous importance in understanding the behaviour and the mentalities that governed the historic evolution of civilisations, trough the continuous bounce between sacred and profane, night and day, life and dead, tradition and modern. The author takes us on a trip in the mysterious world of sings and symbols by defining and ordering the archetypal language that hides under the signs of sacred and profane. The theoretical approach is accompanied by examples from cultural anthropology, religion and ethno-archaeology, with the sole purpose of finding temporal and spatial ways to connect them.
