DEFINITION, MEANING AND CONCEPT OF MAQAM IN TURKISH WORLD

Summary/Abstract: Maqam concept is a music phenomenon that is performed in a wide geographical area. Theoretical problems comes into question with the development and spread of maqam. There is still an ongoing debate about the theory, structure, usage and even the location of the pitchs. Above all, there is no exact definitions of maqams. Maqams are a musical genre and form seen in the Middle and Near Asia, Turkey, Balkans and Near East, Middle East and North Africa. Uighur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang (East Turkestan), Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey are remarkable places where Maqam music is performed.
