Summary/Abstract: Cotton is an industrial plant used as a basic input in the textile and food industries and grown in 75 countries around the world. Cotton is a strategic product with high economic value that provides significant employment opportunities and added value in processing stages, especially in the textile production chain. Turkey is ranked 6th in the world in terms of cotton production and consumption quantities. Depending on the implementation of public policies, significant changes occur in cotton production in Turkey. GAP, Turkey's most comprehensive regional development project is expected to be held in an area of 1.8 million hectares of irrigation. Approximately 43% of the total amount of cotton produced in Turkey are produced in Şanlıurfa located under GAP.
