Summary/Abstract: The present article examines the poetics of Pascoli’s traumatic experience (the murder of his father) in the key of Cathy Caruth’s theory of trauma. In two of Pascoli’s poems, “Il Gelsomino notturno” and “Il Lampo”, there poet’s unaware psychological symbolism is used as a constant attempt to overcome the trauma. The most frequent one, the symbol of the nest, in its various forms represents the impossibility of that process, because the poet remains isolated and alienated from the Other, trying to build the security of the family nest destroyed in his early childhood. The only dialogue that is possible is the one between the poetry and its Reader.
