Summary/Abstract: The study focuses on the theatrical outcome of the myth of Don Juan for the Romanian drama theorist and playwright Radu Stanca (1920-1962). Explored not as much for its metaphysical weight, but mostly for the histrionic potential of its conflict, the myth displays, with Radu Stanca, an innovative identity issue, based on the hybrid gender of the Don Juanic subject. The rewriting of Don Juan as Dona Juana uses intertext as a sign of identity dissemination, somehow anticipating the parody of gender role-playing in Heiner Müller’s Quartett.
