The prospects of changes in rural areas in connection to the demand for using renewable energy sources

Summary/Abstract: Agriculture is the field of economy which most influences the landscape. Overproduction of food in European countries has caused that large areas of farm land are no longer used. The demand for renewable sources of energy may become the reason why uncultivated land will disappear. Plants providing a lot of biomass will be grown on it and thus raw material for energy production will be obtained. The demand for renewable energy may cause the development of wind and water power industry, which will influence the landscape. Because of lengthy cultivation of some plants and irreversible changes in the environment caused by wind and water power industry, these actions must be taken into consideration while planning the local spatial development.
