Summary/Abstract: A town’s development manifests itself in the qualitative, quantitative and structural changes in land use, which take place at a certain time and place. The development is driven by the processes of spatial diffusion, from the town centres to the outskirts. The processes are linked to human activity in a particular area at a certain time. In terms of land management, they consist of replacing less intensive forms of land use with more intensive ones [Hopfer 1987, Bajerowski 2002]. The constant drive to obtain new land for residential buildings, seek alternative solutions for investment locations and the need to set the right trends in land management, all necessitate the application of new methods to aid the decision-making process concerning the change in the function of land around towns. An object of research were changes of land use forms in Olsztyn and regions in years 1999–2009.
