Assessment of Poland’s innovativeness against the background of the European Union countries

Summary/Abstract: From a longer time perspective, both the development and competitiveness of individual EU member states are substantially related to enhanced innovativeness. Observation of changes in the level of innovativeness makes it possible to evaluate the effectiveness of the pro-innovation policy, and to identify the areas in which relevant action is required to be taken. The aim of the paper is to identify and assess Poland’s innovativeness level and changes taking place in this respect. That was done against the background of the EU member states and covered the years of 2011 and 2016. To that end, Summary Innovation Index (SII) and the Hellwig’s development pattern method were employed. The resultant analysis made it possible to identify changes in the development of Poland’s innovativeness and compare that with other EU countries.
