Assessment of the status of the spatial order of built-up areas in villages in Warmia

Summary/Abstract: One of indicators of sustainable development is spatial order, which in the Warmia region has been shaped primarily by elements of the cultural landscape. The status of preserving natural and cultural space is of predominant importance for the rural areas in Warmia, since it confirms its tourist potential and can contribute to restoration of the identity of the region. The original method for assessing the status of the spatial order of rural built-up areas in the Warmia region presented in the study makes it possible to evaluate the level of the spatial order of any Warmian village and to assess whether the area under analysis is characterized by architecture that is typical for Warmian village buildings. Additionally, the results of this assessment can be helpful in decision-making at the planning stage and while conducting revitalisation works at the local level.
