Summary/Abstract: A prestigious prize is awarded to a Czech female, and no one seems to care. One aspect of this society, which is slowly emerging from the shadow of communism, is the rapidly changing role of women, as they begin to play a more active part in Czech public life. Nevertheless, according to Lidové Noviny editor, Marie Homolová, this is not something that has been acknowledged by the Czech political elite, if their muted reaction to the awarding of a prestigious international prize to a Czech woman is anything to go by.
