Summary/Abstract: One of the most characteristic features of IG languages is the “particle of negation” (Verneinungspartikel, Wortnegation: Walde-Pokorny II, 319 f.) *n-, called “alpha steretikon/privativum ” by grammarians, an unstressed form of the propositional negation (Satznegation) nё, ne. (The full form, however, is in Balto-Slavic always, in other IG languages sporadically used instead of *n-, e. g., lat. refas, gr. nekerdos.)
