Summary/Abstract: Carl Isidor Beck was a Hungarian-born poet of the Vormärz period who focused in his literary work on social criticism as well as on political reflections. Due to his Jewish background he often depicted in his literary work outcasts, like Hungarian Roma and their music. Inspired by this topic, which was already extensively employed by Nikolaus Lenau, a poet Beck highly admired, he revisited Roma music not only in a merely instrumental manner, but also in political, social and philosophical approaches.
