ALONG WITH THE COMPLETE EDITING OF THE STORY OF AHIQUAR ACCORIDNG TO THE MANUSCRIPT NO. 53 FROM THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF SERBIA

Summary/Abstract: Тhe primary goal of this paper is to bring a complete edition of Тhe Story of Ahiqar according to the manuscript no. 53 from the National Library of Serbia. The paper presents a summary of the textological researches of the South Slavic copies of the story. The attention is drawn to the fact that the copy from this manuscript, in compaprison to the other known Serbian copies, brings many textual variations and innovations whose outcome is, possiblly, the oral literature. In addition, the attention is drawn to the language of this text. It is a language in which the Serbian Church Slavonic and the Old Serbian (Stokavian) elements interact at all language levels, whereby it can not be said which elements dominate. Therefore, the significance of this edition is not only in the specific version of the text, but also in its language that shows the possible direction of the Serbian literary language development, that is, the gradual birth of the Serbian literary language on a vernacular basis.
