Summary/Abstract: The study presents various strategies for describing places, used in their letters by women belonging to the Radziwiłł family in the 18th century: Franciszka Urszula née Wiśniowiecki, Magdalena née Czapski, and Aniela née Miączyński. The article concentrates on the persuasive aspect of descriptions of different locations, mainly Nieśwież and Biała. All of these locations are categorized by their function. The author proves that focusing on place descriptions – elements not traditionally connected with persuasion as yet – turns out to enrich the research on the letter as a highly rhetorised form.
