Summary/Abstract: In poetic texts of Czesław Miłosz thoughts about homeland come back often just from the very beginning, but it is subordinated to the artistic concept and takes the form of concealment, laconic and sometimes conflicting or ambiguous statements, recalling the facts of the past. The image of homeland in Miłosz’s poetry is therefore heterogeneous, it is evolving in time influenced by both external and internal factors. This image is fundamentally different from the one occurring in Miłosz’s prose. It consists of three elements: the image of Lithuania – the country of his childhood and youth, the image of Polish language and Polish painting, poetry. Linguistic picture of the homeland can not be observed in a single expression, but in the poet’s whole system of thoughts that show Miłosz as a person that is fighting against stereotypes, traditional patterns confirmed in the consciousness and language.
