Summary/Abstract: The novels of André Schwartz-Bart, which his west-Indian wife occasionally co-signed, are a double identity saga: they superpose or set side by side the long persecution of Jewish and black people; they enhance both cultures while also praising open-mindedness and cross-breeding. Adieu Bogota combines a great variety of interlocking approaches and destinies in the fifties. The plot builds up a tense relationship between marks of hostility and mutual understanding. But resonances and analogies are gradually woven together into a web of humanity common to both the characters and the writer.
