Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the results of an empirical study on strategic issues about the development of today’s national economies. Bulgaria's economic potential has been explored on the basis of a comparative analysis of the structure of the final use of the economies of 25 countries in Europe, including Bulgaria; but also changes in this structure during the period 2000-2014 have been assessed and interpreted. The scope of the analysis is the structure of the final use of the national economies of 24 of the EU’s countries and Norway, assessed in two main aspects – from the point of view of the origin of the products and from the point of view of the final use directions. The subject of analysis is the change in the structure of the final use as a measure of the potential of the national economy of a particular country, and in particular, that of Bulgaria.
