Summary/Abstract: In this study, the impacts of innovation and technology indicators such as number of patent applications, R&D expenditure per capita, number of mobile subscribers, and number of internet users on electricity consumption per capita are empirically analyzed for emerging countries in 2000- 2018. Autocorrelation and heteroskedasticity problems are solved using Arellano-Bond (1991) method. Results show that 10% increase in R&D expenditures per capita, number of mobile subscribers, and number of internet users promote electricity use per capita by 0.4%, 0.1%, and 0.3%, respectively. However, no significant effect of patent applications on electricity use per capita is observed. These findings may indicate the necessity of electricity efficiency policies in emerging countries.
