FORM AND COMPOSITION IN ARCHITECTURE - A CRITICAL APPROACH

Summary/Abstract: chess game. Before the first move one has to make in theopening phase one must have thought thoroughly, becauseif it is not the “exact” move, if the move is not really“necessary” or if it is not aligned within a series of compatiblerules and decisions dictated by “the game”, thegame has to restart. The preliminary thinking processneeds to fix the functional data and the formal intentions,both efficiently synthesized, it needs “to proclaim”the main idea of the approach. However, the inherentartistic talent of practicing architect may represent anobstacle to this reflexive attitude ... in a phase where thearchitect’s creative resources are focused and exalted. Bydrawing multiple alternatives, formal alternatives, onemay discover his own still inconspicuous mental image,possibly clarified even by words, and these repeated andtested alternatives may conduct towards solution.The architecture, as social art, it is part of our urbanlandscape, without its addressee to have any choice inproofing it. The architecture thrives even by using the objectiveparadigms of the proposed program. That’s whyone may consider that architecture can adopt methodsof expression or formal composition rules specific to theenvironment/ensemble in which it has to enter into.
