Summary/Abstract: Communication, as the oldest social process, is described as an exchange of facts and opinions in humans, human social groups and institutions. In business, communication is essential for the corporate functioning. In a number of communications, there are two main types: non-verbal communication and verbal communication. Non-verbal communication is a substantial form of conveying messages – words may not be uttered, yet messages are sent. Thus, the body language is perceived subconsciously. The first impression is highly important. This impression, which is being created through the first 15 seconds, is tremendously difficult to be modified later. Although verbal communication can be replaced by the body language, it usually completes the transfer of non-verbal messages. From a social view, a large group of professionals, such as teachers, physicians, shop assistants, negotiators, lawyers or politicians, uses gestures, facial expressions, touch, body posture and voice tone to build up a required atmosphere. Body language is inherited from animal ancestors. Through the process of growing up and education, body language is gradually modified due to social and cultural patterns. Proxemics is the study of spatial interrelations in people, also in people and their material environment. It divides countries due to contact cultures and distance cultures. Further, it defines personal space in privacy and in business relations like business meetings with subordinates or customers.
