Summary/Abstract: This paper examines those segments of the film adaptation of The Sunset Limited which represent key features of Cormac McCarthy’s literary idiom: treatment of time and space, allegory, violence, nihilism and an ambiguous ending. The most prominent and important elements, which constitute the poetics of this author, are to be recognised in the approaches opted for by the film’s director Tommy Lee Jones. Success of this adaptation lies in the right choice of motifs from the original novel and in a convincing way of placing them in the foreground.
