Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to serve as a brief introduction to the study of the different aspects that compose the history of hunting in Transylvania until the end of the 19th Century, as presented in a number of works written on this topic by authors such as Gheorghe Nedici, Ion Nania, August Von Spiess or Otto Witing. While the subject matter is quite vast, the author aims to cover in large the most important aspects regarding the practice of hunting and its evolution.Therefore the article comprises aspects concerning the motivations that stood behind the practice of hunting by different social groups and how they gradually changed, the game species that were hunted over the centuries, the evolution of hunting methods and weapons and the development of the hunting legislation from its earliest forms up until the 1883 Hungarian hunting law, focusing particularly on the laws that came into effect during the late 18th and the 19th Centuries.
