Summary/Abstract: The paper serves as an introduction to the topic of onomasiological comparison in a cross-linguistic perspective based on the analysis of occupational names in Slovak and English. The paper presents two main sources the research is based on – theory of lexical motivation and onomasiological approach with regards to formal and onomasiological analysis of semantic equivalents. Along with the sources, various other aspect crucial for the analysis are also presented, as well as an example of how the analysis is conducted.
