Summary/Abstract: This article highlights the terminological origin of the word culture in French and Arabic. It is a question of searching, in both languages, the origin of the word culture and to trace the history of its semantic evolution. It is important to show that culture previously belonged to a linguistic and semantic domain quite different from the one of current use. In French it was part of the field of plowing and working the land. As for its origin in Arabic, the word culture was, among other meanings of the same term, rather related to the craft of swords and daggers.
