Summary/Abstract: In order to love his homeland a man should first know it. Excursions are the most preferred manner of education by students from primary school, from 1st to 4th grade. During excursions, children’s interest is highly increased, the knowledge and concepts are easily and naturally gained, the excursion is an effective form of training and education of adolescents. The essay examines the significance of excursions for training purposes of the following school subjects “Ambient World”, “Homeland”, “Man and Nature”, “Man and Society”, the excursion types, problems, methods, and successive stages of a school excursion, preliminary preparation of teacher and students, excursion types according didactic goals, the use of excursion in teaching in “Homeland”, “Ambient World”, “Man and Society”, and “Man and Nature”, elements of annual and preliminary plan of the excursion, and monitoring as a dominating empirical method for didactic researches.
