Summary/Abstract: “The task of futurism is the revival of things – bringing back the experience of the world to man.” In Vladimir Mayakovski’s early dramatic work Vladimir Majakovskij. Tragedija (1913), this formalistically futuristic postulate undergoes a literary conversion. The thematic core of the play is represented by the revolt of things, in which the things reject their old worn-out designations, thus satisfying the demand of the formalists/futurists for a new language, appropriate to the contemporary requirements of life. The research into the comprehension of things in the Russian formalists and futurists may be conceived as a contribution to the modern branches of cultural science concerning the current new discoveries and/or rediscoveries of materiality.
