Becoming an Adult in the Age of Liquid Modernity in the Experience of Metropolitan Young Adults

Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to reconstruct the process of becoming an adult person in the dimensions of both identity and social interactions. The article is based on the author’s qualitative research, namely in-depth quasi biographical interviews and focus group interviews conducted with people who were born in 1986 and entering adulthood in the environment of a large city. The analysis of the paths of shaping the adult identity has been embedded in the theory of liquid modernity, theories of early adulthood, and theories of identity. Then, with the use of the conceptual instruments of these theoretical frameworks, the stages of shaping the adult identity have been characterized.
