Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes and panoramically presents the overview of the first wave of Nastasijević’s prose immediately after the publication of individual short stories and the collection Iz tamnog vilajeta. The majority of the texts that were found provide a full impression of the reception of this prose among his contemporaries and, conditionally in the second circle, immediately after the writer’s death. For that reason the paper first offers an overview of the journals that dealt with Nastasijević’s work (and which were, in a certain way, either in his favour or against him) and then of the authors who followed and commented on his work. It can be said that the (auto)poetic characteristics of the analyzed work were even then, during the first contact with it, noticed and described. Critics presupposed who could be the possible models or sources of influence and finally, as the most intriguing (and still open) issue, there was the question of how the contemporaries classified and placed a living work in creation in an extremely tumultuous(and at the same time doubly entrenched) time of our literature.
