Summary/Abstract: Since the end of the Second World War, until 2010, United Kingdom has had single-party governments. This single-party practices created behavioural and institutional patterns, which shape political actions of almost all constitutional bodies. On that basis every prime minister can, at least potentially, control the entire executive network. Obviously, 2010– 2015 coalition government challenged this notion, because then UK Prime Minister had to shared power with a political group, that he couldn’t controlled and influenced in a standard way. Having that in mind, there are two aims of this article. Firstly, it is to present a standard set of PM’s tools, which help him to control the core executive. Secondly, it is a depiction of coalition effect on a first minister’s ability to exert his power over governmental politics. In order to achieve those goals the article will focus mainly, except introductory remarks, on three themes: 1) chief executive’s contacts with political party or parties that create parliamentary majority; 2) committee system and PM’s ability to control that field; and 3) advisory and strategic function of Cabinet Office as a first minister’s political tool.
