Summary/Abstract: The volunteer youth work actions that took part in the rebuilding of Yugoslavia 1946-1951 did not only build large infrastructure projects necessary for the accelerated development of the Yugoslav economy but it was also the place where the profile of the new young person was engineered, a person who would consciously and decisively build and protect socialism and contribute to its dissemination as a worldwide phenomenon. Thus, the daily life of the brigadiers was supplemented by the systematic activities in education and upbringing. Thousands of young men and women coming mostly from the economically and culturally backward villages, built railroads, roads and factories and at the same time took literacy courses, acquired certain skills and trades, heard radio programs, watched films and saw theater performances for the first time in their lives.
