Summary/Abstract: The article presents the impact of the escalation of the crisis in Ukraine for the escalation of the crisis in Ukraine for the energy security of European countries, which as a result of both indirect and direct involvement of Moscow led to increased tension between the Russian Federation and the European Union and the United States of America. Kremlins aggressive policy towards Ukraine, using all of the available instruments in this energy has undermined its credibility as the main supplier of natural gas to Europe and arose in the collective consciousness Union countries questions about the instrumentalization of gas supplies as leverage in foreign policy. This situation is complicated by the fact that the European Union as a result of strong dependence on natural gas supplies from Russia in the short term and medium term isn’t able to find an alternative that ensures the appropriate level of energy security. In this context, despite a number of steps taken by the European Union still remain unanswered question: Is the European community able to find a credible alternative allowing it to become independent of gas supplies from Russia?
