Particularities of the Semantic Realization of Words in the Evolution of Indo-European Peoples

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the issue of the reflection of national mentality in different languages. The paper describes the common and specific peculiarities of the connotative usage of names of natural phenomena in literary works of Ukrainian, German, English and French writers and in proverbs of Indo-European nations. A quantitative analysis of the usage of names of natural phenomena in Ukrainian, German, English and French is performed, from a contrastive perspective. The research proved the existence of individual traits of languages, as shown by the prevalence of nationally-specific meanings of the analysed lexical units.
