Summary/Abstract: The theme of this paper is the activism of religious actors at the European Union level, in the context of the European Parliament elections held on 5 May 2019. It presents the documents of the Commission of Bishops Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) and the Conference of European Churches (CEC), published on the occasion of the said elections. These are “Rebuilding Community in Europe” of COMECE and “Europe: It’s Our Future” of CEC, in which two leading Union-level religious actors presented their views on the European elections and its relevance to the future of the European continent. These documents and through them COMECE and CEC are taken as a case study for political activism of religious actors and viewed in the light of the principle of participatory democracy, which crossed with the principle of representative democracy precisely in the elections for the European Parliament.
