Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present activities carried out for the protection of cultural heritage in rural areas in Poland and the amount of their financing. The purpose of the project was to use data from the Report on the Activities of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture for the years 2010−2014 and data from the Supreme Audit Office from the study entitled The Use of Public Funds for the Implementation of Local Development Strategies under the Rural Development Program 2007−2013. The analysis included activities implemented under Axis 4. Leader, referring to the implementation of small projects. There search has shown that over the period from 2010−2013 over 44 thousand applications forthe implementation of activities for the protection of cultural heritage in rural areas were submitted. This proves high awareness of the local community about the resources possessed and the need to preserve them and promote them. The total amount of activities accepted for implementation amounted to 3 77 283 thousand PLN. The implementation of individual measures for the protection of cultural heritage in rural areas varied. The local community mostoften applied for co-financing activities related to the organization of cultural, promotional, recreational or sporting events related to the promotion of local assets. A high percentage of completed projects referred to the improvement of infrastructure, thanks to which it ispossible to create cultural events. The research revealed significant disproportions between the financing of elements of material heritage and elements of belonging to the intangible cultural heritage. Much higher average amounts were granted for material protection of elements creating cultural heritage than for preserving, securing and promoting rural tradition and culture.
