Summary/Abstract: The article seeks answers to the question of legitimacy and efficiency of service in the one-man police patrol as a modern form of work aimed primarily at reducing crime. Conclusions were drawn on the basis of surveys carried out among police officers. The results were illustrated in several graphs, showing, inter alia, the ineffectiveness of such form of police service, the concerns of police officers related to this service, the reasons for introducing single patrols, as well as the participants’ seniority. The authors also analyzed the frequency of service in one-person patrols consisting of officers with the seniority of up to 3 years, the stability of regions where patrol duties were carried out, tasks and the types of one-person patrols. The whole research helped to formulate conclusions which condition effective and secure service of officers, as well as proposals of supplementing the existing provisions in this matter (Ordinance No. 768 of the Police Chief).
