Summary/Abstract: Purpose of the article. The article analyzes mythological characters as the main structural element of the sign and symbolic field of sports and artistic performances and the cultural code in the communicative field of culture. The semiotics of the mythological component of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games on the examples of chthonic beings, primates, gods and cultural heroes is considered. The methodology of the research is to apply interdisciplinary, comparative and semiotic methods. This methodological approach allows us to comprehensively explore and structurally synthesize a large factual material based on a significant theoretical background. The scientific novelty of the work is the culturological reception of the mythological characters of the sports and arts performances on the example of the Olympic Games. Conclusions. The definition of mythological motifs in the symbolic field of culture made it possible to analyze the structural and symbolic content of mythological characters in the direction process of the Olympic Games and to trace the dynamics of totemic characters as talismans of sports and artistic activities.
