The emergence of the environmental museums phenomenon in the European museum tradition

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to study the prerequisites for the emergence of the phenomenon of environmental museums in the Western museum studies tradition. Methodology. The cultural approach with the use of methods of analysis and synthesis, historical and logical approach is applied. The experience of creating "Scansen" by A. Hazeulys as the first experience of museum modeling was considered. The scientific novelty of the study is that this article is one of the first attempts in the Ukrainian museum science to comprehensively analyze the prerequisites and history of the phenomenon of environmental museums development in European museum science. Conclusions. The emergence of the phenomenon of environmental museums was reasoned by several factors: the natural transformation of museum forms that existed in the past and socio-cultural changes of the twentieth century, reflected in the activities of the museum.
